Welcome to Richland Avenue Elementary!

I am Tabitha Thigpen, and I am honored to serve as your principal. Throughout my 28-year
career in education, I have thrived in various leadership roles, starting as a high school French
teacher at King/Drew Magnet High School of Medicine and Science. There, I immersed students
in the rich histories, customs, and cultures of the francophone world, extending our classroom
with trips to Paris to bring their learning to life.

I am committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive community that integrates the lived
experiences of our students and families into our planning. Our dedicated staff focuses on
delivering academically challenging, data-informed, and equity-driven education. We proactively
collect, analyze, and share information to clearly define our students' academic standing and
social-emotional wellness.

At Richland Avenue School, our French Dual Language program is a gem in West Los Angeles.
We are dedicated to fostering an inclusive and dynamic learning environment. My goal is to
inspire and support our students, staff, and community as we navigate the journey of growth and
learning together. I believe in the power of collaboration, high expectations, and creating
opportunities for our students to thrive.
