AFTER SCHOOL CARE
There are two different after school programs that are offered by STAR, Inc. The first is a program for our younger students (TK-1st grade). This program is called the G4 program and offers care from the end of the school day until 6:00 p.m. The good news about this fee-based program is that you can chose between 2-5 days of care and your schedule for pick up time is flexible!
The older students (grades 1-6) may choose to participate in the STAR Galaxy program, which is a free, grant-funded program. Students are cared for from dismissal until 6:00 p.m. Pick-up time begins at 5:00 p.m., but parents are discouraged from picking up earlier as the grant specifies that students commit to the full program.
All STAR programs offer a balance of academic support, enrichment, fitness and recreation as well as special events on campus, community events and activities. It’s a recipe for a balanced childhood and a preparation for future success! Students rotate through group tutoring, a homework lab, sports/fitness/recreation, and enrichment. All staff possess the educational background required to teach in their area, go through a thorough background check, are certified in first aid and CPR, have experience working with young children, and have a passion for teaching.
STAR also offers after school enrichment (NOVA classes) for a fee. Your child may enjoy cooking, Rockstar, martial arts, or coding. Schedules and registration are sent home quarterly. Students do not need to be enrolled in the STAR after school program to register for these wonderful enrichment classes!
Beyond the Bell, a division of LAUSD, also offers after school care for Richland families. The program is called Youth Services, and the staff help students with homework and encourage physical activities through organized sports activities. This program is for students in grades 2-5. Parents must complete a separate registration to enroll their child in the program. Please contact the playground director/coach for details. Students not registered in the Beyond the Bell program will not be allowed to stay and play after school dismissal. This is a permissive program with limited personnel to supervise students. It is expected that participants will follow all program rules and the directions of the coach/director.
